In June 1989, the first 7-Eleven store opened on Patpong Road in Bangkok. With a small concept and great success, around ten thousand 7-Eleven stores are now in operation across the country. Round-the-clock opening hours and a wide range of everyday items make them particularly interesting in areas without supermarkets, and not just for vacationers and the Thai people of choice. Their basic American idea may be controversial, but in Thailand the corner store has long since become a substitute for the kiosk, kiosk or gas station for many people.
